New Haven Cemetery

I'm sure you've seen the cemetery book locally advertised, Cemeteries of Red River County by Lawrence & Sue Dale.  I went to the RRC library yesterday morning (19 September) and looked it up.  It is a TON of information, but in one of the index books, I found where they will spike out your Red River County cemetery and charge you accordingly.  The New Haven book was (I believe) $16.80 including shipping.  The Doak book was $8.18 including shipping.  It is 13 years of intense research.  They went to Jolley Funeral Home, Clarksville Funeral Home, old newspapers, and bureau of Vital Statistics, as well as interviewed "old timers" and no telling what other research.  They also personally visited each and every one of the 271 cemeteries in Red River County - TWO TIMES - and made a complete inventory of the headstones that includes the epitaphs.  Where obits were found in old newspapers, those are included as part of the book.  If you are interested in ordering your own book (if you happen to be visiting this site and you're interested in a cemetery other than New Haven, that's OK, too), e-mail me and I'll get in touch with him.

Picture above, left to right, with the William M. Raulston monument in the Clarksville, Texas New Haven Cemetery, are the children of Clarence Melvin Raulston, Sr. and Nannie Bess Yarbrough Raulston:  Herbert, C.M., Sue, Kent, and Garland.

The below pictures were taken 7 March 2008.  Beautiful snowfall that did not stick!

If you are interested in owning a book of the New Haven Cemetery and the Doak Cemetery, contact Paula Duchesne.  The cost is around $25 (I can't remember to the penny), and it is a wonderful find!  We got ours September 19, 2008, and we love it!

The below pictures were taken before the 1991 tornado, as well as before the New Haven Baptist Church was torn down.  What a difference the trees make to the looks of the cemetery!

This is Derrelline Raulston at Clarence & Nannie Bess Raulston's grave before the tornado.  There is no sign of those evergreens now, that's for sure!

Look at all the trees in the cemetery before the tornado!

The above pictures are of the "old" New Haven Baptist Church.  The one on the left was the delivery of new pews.  The one on the right was taken in May of 1993 with Derrelline Raulston in the pink blouse.

"Great Grandfather William M. Raulston believed in building school houses and doing other things he considered to be of service to his community. He bought and donated to the community the land where the New Haven Church and Cemetery are located. It is still referred to as the Raulston Cemetery by some of the elder non-resident relatives."  Quoted from C.M. Raulston's book, The Raulstons of Red River County published in 1973.

UPDATED 26 MARCH 2008 TO INCLUDE "CURRENT" RESIDENTS AND PRE-1991 TORNADO PICS.  ALMOST COMPLETE.
